Providing comprehensive care nursing to TB, Drug Resistance-TB (DR-TB) and TB/HIV co-infected patients.
Improved sputum monitoring by developing an SOP used by peripheral clinics managing DR-TB patients in Oshakati District, Namibia and improved the cure rate for MDR-TB patients from as low as 10% in the 2011 cohort to 50% in the 2014 cohort.
Contributed to the successful integration of HIV services into TB clinic at Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in August 2014 and improved the time from HIV testing to enrolment into HIV care from 71.8 days to 3.8 days.
Also reduced the time to initiation of ART from staring TB treatment from 44 days to 18.3 days.
Established compassionate environments by providing emotional and psychological support to the patients and their relatives through patient education and counselling on TB and TB/HIV, and social issues in collaboration with other staff e.g., social workers.
Maintained medical records and files in a thorough, correct and confidential manner for all DR-TB patients in Oshakati District making sure the patients were aware of the progression of their treatment e.g., in terms of sputum cultures conversion.
Effectively delivered engaging PowerPoint presentations on TB and TB/HIV for nurses, TB field promoters, Community health care workers (CHW).
Maintained an updated data system, paper and electronic according to the Namibian TB and Leprosy Guidelines, also ensuring that accurate reports were submitted timeously.
Ensured adherence to protocols on TB infection control, maintenance of equipment, supplies, and keeping the patients safe.
Ensured timeous, correct and safe administration of anti-TB medicines to the right patients as well as monitor for side effects.
