  • Led the design of 10 undergraduate modules and the delivery of modules in animal health, which contributed to high quality courses such as Veterinary Public Health (including One Health), Animal Welfare, and Pharmacology and Toxicology.
  • Currently, co-leading the development of a BSc One Health curriculum and updated animal health curriculum to reflect contemporary issues, topics and industry advancements.
  • Prepared, invigilated, graded and moderated [2015- present] student assessments according to University of Namibia policies and procedures.
  • Prepared innovative lessons using exceptional communication techniques, as evidenced by strong module feedback and 90% student pass rate.
  • Monitored students' progress against educational targets, implementing positive interventions including academic and pastoral support to students requiring additional help.
  • Formulated and submitted student progress reports to management.

Current Research Projects:

  • Serological evaluation for Brucella, Rift Valley fever and West Nile virus infections in humans, and cattle in a malaria endemic setting (Principal investigator)
  • Serological and molecular identification of Brucella spp. from cattle presenting with hygromas in the Zambezi region (Principal investigator)
  • A journey towards a One Health approach to surveillance and control of Schistosomiasis and Fascioliasis in Namibia: Assessment of potential role of livestock as reservoirs of infection (Co-investigator).


Community Engagement:

  • Regular participation in community engagement activities during routine visits for student field practical sessions.
  • Organizing and participating in the annual rabies campaign (28 September), which involves awareness campaigns in schools, and surrounding communities and the provision of free dog vaccinations.

  • Implementation of departmental strategic objectives, resource mobilisation and management, representing the department at various university committees, building relationships with relevant stakeholders and regular reporting to management.

  • Performed effective animal disease diagnosis, treatment (including surgery), prevention (preventive healthcare), and control, and extension services based Namibian legislation.

  • Participated in the formulation of the Food Safety Policy, the game meat harvesting hygiene standard, Animal Health Act (Act 1 of 2011), and Animal Identification Regulations.
  • Performed audits of abattoir hygiene procedures (pre-requisite programs), and Hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) procedures at beef, lamb, ostrich and game abattoirs based on European Union and United States of America legislative requirements and standards.
  • Peformed meat inspection at high throughput export standard beef, lamb, ostrich and game meat abattoirs to ensure safe meat for the local and international market.
  • Conducted microbial monitoring of meat, meat products, and water to assess compliance with minimum levels for safe food and potable water as per European Union food safety legislation and the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
  • Carried out research on foodborne pathogens (Escherichia coli) and zoonotic diseases (brucellosis).
  • Enforced legislation on animal welfare at the time of slaughter to minimise animal stress, and discomfort during slaughter.
