General Duties

• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to initiate marketing strategies and meet market penetration and business growth objectives
• Maintain current understanding of industry and underwriting procedures.
• Assist the CEO in establishing operational structures
• In conjunction with the CEO, define underwriting strategy and recommend business plans that will generate continued profitable business growth in current and future markets
• Contribute to strategic planning and the overall management of the company

Underwriting

• Revise underwriting guidelines to reflect changes in underwriting policy
• Evaluate loss experience to determine whether changes should be made to underwriting guidelines
• Provide training to new underwriters and exclusive agents
• Assist others with complex accounts
• Work collaboratively to research and develop new coverages forms and modify existing ones
• Act as a signatory after reviewing insurance policies and surety bonds issued in line with the underwriting authority

Reinsurance

• Plans the company’s reinsurance programme to ensure timely negotiations of both treaty and facultative reinsurance with reinsurers and brokers
• Negotiates and updates changes or amendments to the treaty and facultative agreements approved by company management.
• Verifies a variety of reinsurance accounts and liaises with Finance Department for remittance or reinsurance premiums in accordance with the contract requirements.
• Markets and accepts inward reinsurance business for the company and secures the appropriate reinsurance protection for the business.
• Reviews working relationships with and competence of the reinsurers and reinsurance brokers advising management on the need to continue the relationships.

General Duties

Underwriting

• Conducted underwriting audits to ensure underwriting guidelines are adhered to

• Oversaw underwriting of commercial, personal and specialty lines of business e.g. House owners insurance, householders insurance, commercial and personal motor insurance, gadget insurance, credit insurance, fire insurance, office contents, machinery breakdown, business income insurance, theft, fidelity guarantee, professional indemnity, management liability (D & O and Pension Trustees), Engineering risks, marine, aviation etc

Reinsurance

• Prepared the relevant bordereaux as required
• Calculated sliding-scale and profit commission
• Placed facultative reinsurance as required
• Monitored and updated rating records of all reinsurers
• Oversaw treaty contract compliance
• Prepared the required renewal information including risk profiles, statistical results, top risks, underwriting philosophy and major losses, etc.
