Accomplishments

  • I joined the Namibia Association of Children with disabilities (NACD) as a Community Worker. In this role, I identified persons with disabilities within their communities and conducted home visits, particularly for those who would have received treatment plans from rehabilitation centers at district hospitals. My responsibilities included raising awareness on causes, manifestations, and management of various impairments, monitoring, and advising on physiotherapy plans. I established networks with other organizations for referral purposes.
  • I got promoted to the District Rehabilitation Officer, and in this capacity, I represented the organization at the district level, engaging in networking and participating in district development platforms. I was responsible for producing district plans and reports, as well as supervising community workers, guiding them on appropriate interventions for each client identified.
  • I was subsequently promoted to Advocacy and Gender Officer, and my focus shifted to the empowerment and social components of the CBR matrix, where I provided strategic advice on advocacy initiatives across all program areas.
  • Key Achievements
  • I initiated the concept of Community Disability Committees to enhance program ownership and sustainability, empowering local stakeholders to take active roles in the social integrainitiative
  • I established self-advocacy groups to empower persons with disabilities, amplifying their voices and promoting self-representation within the community.
  • I successfully integrated gender indicators into all projects under the community based rehabilitation program and developed appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools that assessed participation levels in community based rehabilitation activities for both men and women, contributing to a cultural shift. This initiative helped challenge traditional gender roles, encouraging fathers to take active responsibility for caring of their children with disabilities, rather than relegating this role to mothers.
  • I played a pivotal role in the strategic transition of the Association from CBR to Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID), which included developing new strategy to support this shift.
